I inherited a group of my great aunt's autograph books a couple of years ago.  They are dated back to the late 1930's / early 40's.  The covers are beautifully worn leather.  The binding is aged with tattered threads barely holding the pages together.  The saying,  "it's what's inside that counts" has never rang so true.  These books are filled with personal wishes from my aunt's friends.  There are love notes, funny rhymes, and even a few drawings.

Each book is a treasure.  I think they are a lost art.  Sure some folks still collect autographs from famous people but what about signatures from personal friends or acquaintances?  My aunt's books range from school graduation autographs, well wishes from co-workers, and folks that she met while traveling.  I think that it would be fun to revive these books.  It would be nice to have one sitting on the coffee table during a get-together.  Collecting signatures from friends and little notes about special evenings would make such a lovely keepsake.  Books can go along on special trips.  I think of craft shows and how nice it would be to collect signatures of artists that I meet.

  2. Me too! They are amazing. Each time I flip through them, I find something new. My favorite has got to be the art. One book has quite a few doodles. Love each and every one!

  6. This is so wonderful. For a short amount of time, I curated a small gallery space and my favorite part about it were the comment books I would get back after a show was completed.
