My daughter is 4 years old.  She is a huge fan of Shel Silverstein.  We have read both Falling Up and Where The Sidewalk Ends too many times to count.   She has recently taken to making up her own poems.  The first poem was created bright and early on the way to school.  Looking out the window, using a dramatic, spoken word voice, she recited one off the top of her head.  I enjoyed it so much that I pulled the car over and had her say it again so that I could write it down.  Her words were so full of color.  It was easy to figure out a way to celebrate her poetry.  I decided to create a book for her.  So far, she has supplied two poems.  Hopefully, she will keep at it and we can fill the entire thing.  I think that it will make a nice keepsake.
